How to Get Yourself a Friend Code and Mystery Gift in Pokémon Pearl

The Nintendo DS video game, "Pokémon Pearl," contains hundreds of Pokémon to catch and train, as well as dozens of trainers to fight and defeat. While many of these battles will yield you money or items, there is another way to add some rare items to your inventory and sometimes even acquire legendary Pokémon: the Mystery Gift function. With the help of friend codes, you can battle or trade your Pokémon with other trainers.

Instructions

Obtaining a Mystery Gift

  Turn on your DS and load your "Pokémon Pearl" game file. Head over to Jubilee City. Use your in-game navigation screen to help you find your way.

  Enter the TV station in the city. Head over to the third floor and walk to the left of the room. Nearby will be a man. Approach him and press the "A" button to talk to him. He will ask you to input words. Respond with "everyone" and "happy." He'll accept this and prompt you for a second set of words. Input "wi-fi" and "connection." Save your game and power down.

  Use your Nintendo Event Calendar to find an upcoming Pokémon event. Some will be online, and some will be conventions you can attend. You can also find information about upcoming Pokémon events on the official Pokémon website.

  Arrive at a Nintendo event and turn on your DS. The menu page of "Pokémon Pearl" will now have a function called Mystery Gift. Select it and choose to receive a gift through your DS's wireless connection.

  Open up your gift to find out what it is. Sometimes it will be a letter, a Pokémon or access to an area where you can fight and capture a powerful new Pokémon.
Obtaining a Friend Code

  Head over to Oresburg City and enter the city's Gym. Speak to the man inside the gym and receive the Pal Pad. This device allows you to begin the Friend Code experience. Enter the bottom floor of the nearest Pokémon Center and log onto the GTS system.

  Exit the GTS system and go back to your inventory to select the Pal Pad. It will have your 12 digit, personalized Friend Code. This code allows you to battle other trainers through your systems' Wi-Fi connections.

  Enter another person's friend code and choose to initiate a Pokémon battle. You can also enter a union room and use a friend code to initiate a trade.
