What Are All the Special Plants in Gardening Mama?

Playing the 2009 Nintendo DS game "Gardening Mama" allows you to tend vegetables, fruits and other plants in your own virtual garden. Longtime fans of the "Cooking Mama" series -- who bought more than 2.5 million copies of the first game in the series -- will recognize the character Mama, the Japanese homemaker who oversees your gardening experience and offers comedic commentary. Among the plants you can grow are special plants you don't get during normal gameplay.

Using Bonus Fertilizers in the Special Garden
- To grow a special plant, you need to use bonus fertilizer in the Special Garden section. To unlock this bonus fertilizer, you must completely finish each level for each plant. For example, completing all of the tasks with the tulip unlocks a bonus fertilizer for tulips. In the Special Garden section, you can use that bonus fertilizer to grow rainbow tulips.
Special Flower Plants
- The special flower plants that you can unlock are: butterfly pansies, rainbow tulips, metallic silver roses, metallic black roses and giant sunflowers. The plants you must complete to unlock the bonus fertilizers for these special plants are: pansies, tulips, roses, trailing roses and sunflowers, respectively.
Special Fruits and Vegetables
- The rest of the special plants in "Gardening Mama" consist of fruits and vegetables. When you complete the squash, the strawberry, the potato and the apple levels satisfactorily, you unlock bonus fertilizers. Using these bonus fertilizers in the Special Garden will unlock the following special plants: giant pumpkins, giant strawberries, star potatoes and golden apples.
Unlocking the Nectar Game
- A reward for growing all of the special plants is the Nectar Game. To get the Nectar Game, select the treasure chest icon on the main menu. If you've successfully unlocked all of the special plants, you should see a bumblebee icon on the treasure chest menu. Click on this bee and start playing a game in which you help a bee make honey by collecting nectar from your garden.
