How to Get the Water High in Wet-Dry World

"Super Mario 64" features many strange and enjoyable worlds for the portly plumber to explore, including the tricky "Wet-Dry World." The eleventh world in the game, "Wet-Dry World" is a largely vertically aligned level containing many water-based puzzles and challenges. To collect all eight stars, you will need to master raising and lowering the world's water height upon entering the level. With some precise acrobatics, Mario can make the water level as high or as low as needed to complete his current objective.

Instructions

    • 1

Position Mario in front of the painting portal to "Wet-Dry World" inside Princess Peach's castle. The water level of "Wet-Dry World" depends on the height of Mario's entry point when he jumps through the painting to start the level. By entering at the painting's top, the world will be flooded, but by entering at the very bottom of the painting, the world will be bone-dry.

    • 2

Crouch with Mario's back to the painting and perform a back flip so he enters the painting at or near the very top of the painting. If done correctly, the water will be at its highest stage.

    • 3

Stand far from the painting, and complete a triple jump to go into "Wet-Dry World" at its highest point. A triple jump is done by jumping three times in succession by pressing the "A" button the instant Mario's feet touch the ground. The large flipping jump Mario does for the third jump is more than enough height to enter the level with the water at its highest point.

    • 4

Touch one of the colorful diamond icons to raise the water level to the level of the diamond. These diamonds are scattered through the level. For example, if Mario touches a diamond that is higher than the current water level, the water will rise to the diamond.
