How to Evolve Gastly Into Haunter on Pokemon Diamond

As one of the few Ghost-type Pokemon you can obtain in "Pokemon Diamond Version," Gastly is a valuable commodity with a powerful third evolution stage in Gengar. Armed with top-end Speed and excellent Special Attack, Gengar can sweep teams that aren't properly prepared for it. Before you can use Gengar, however, you'll need to evolve a Gastly into Haunter. Capturing and evolving a Gastly early in the game will give you a dangerous and versatile attacker whose evolutions can devastate opposing teams.

Instructions

  Obtain the Forest Badge and HM01 Cut from Eterna City. You can find HM01 Cut by talking to a woman north of the Pokemon Center, and obtain the Forest Badge by defeating Gym Leader Gardenia. Teach Cut to one of the Pokemon in your party.

  Head to the Old Chateau. Leave Eterna City through the western exit through Route 205, cross the bridge and enter Eterna Forest via the entrance on the northern part of the path. Walk left through the forest until you see short trees that can be cut down to the north. Use Cut to chop them down and enter the Old Chateau.

  Capture a Gastly. Walk around the Old Chateau until you encounter one; it is the only Pokemon that will appear. Weaken the Gastly and capture it with a Poke Ball. Note that Gastly knows the move Curse, which cuts its HP in half and may cause it to make itself faint. If this happens, simply encounter another one.

  Evolve Gastly into Haunter. Battle with the Pokemon to level it up. Gastly evolves at Level 25.
