Word Interpretation Games
PictoChat's stylus interface is well suited for games in which players interpret words that have been scrambled or modified. A Rebus, also known as a Frame Game or word picture puzzle, is a type of word and picture puzzle game in which a phrase or concept is represented by word fragments arranged in creative manners. Players analyze the puzzle words and images and the manner in which they are depicted in order to decipher the puzzle's answer. As an example, an image of a bird that has been shattered into multiple pieces could represent the term "Broken Bird". Also popular are Word Scramble games in which players are tasked with unscrambling a scrambled word chosen by another player. Word Scrambles can be played in a variety of ways, including themed Word Scrambles in which players must also identify a common link between all the scrambled words.
Word Guessing Games
Word guessing games are another type of game that works perfectly with PictoChat. One example of such a game is Hangman, a classic word game in which players must identify a specific word in a limited number of guesses. One player, the Executioner, draws a picture of a gallows and a series of underlines to represent the letters of the mystery word while the other players each take turns guessing which letters are used in the mystery word. If players guess correctly, the Executioner fills in the letter in the appropriate spaces of the mystery word. If a guess is incorrect, the Executioner draws one body part for every incorrect guess. Hangman ends if the players correctly find all letters of the word or if the hanging figure is completed. Variations of word guessing games can have players guess words from definitions or hints presented by the questioner.
Picture Games
With PictoChat's ability to transmit drawings by players, picture games are another possible avenue of PictoChat gaming. Many popular picture games, such as Pictionary, task players with identifying the subject of a picture drawn by another player and forbid the use of letters and numbers under the threat of disqualification. These picture games can be easily modified to cover a wide variety of play fields and play styles. Drawings can be limited to a specific category such as people or objects or can be drawn from several different categories. Another variation entails designating one player as the game's artist to accommodate small player groups or teams as opposed to each team member rotating in and out of the role of artist.
Puzzles and Riddles
For players interested in games that challenge their intellect and reasoning skill, puzzles and riddles are an excellent subject that players can treat as a game in PictoChat. Puzzles and riddles can come in a wide variety of formats and range from relatively easy to ingeniously difficult in order to accommodate a wide variety of ages and education levels.
