Instructions
Choose the starter Pokemon that best fits your needs. At the beginning of the game, you are offered one of three Pokemon: Cyndaquil, the Fire-type; Totodile, the Water-type; or Chikorita, the Grass-type. Each Pokemon has its merits, although Cyndaquil is easier to work with in general, and Chikorita has quite a few weaknesses at first.
Head to the nearest PokeMart, and stock up on supplies, like Poke Balls and Potions. As you progress in the game, you're able to buy better Balls that have a higher Pokemon capture rate.
Walk outside and find a patch of tall grass, and then walk around in it. After a few steps, a battle with a wild Pokemon starts.
Use your Pokemon to damage the wild Pokemon slightly. If it is one you'd like to add to your team, throw a Poke Ball at it to capture it. If not, defeat it and look for a different Pokemon. You're able to have six Pokemon on your team at once.
Collect strong Pokemon that have few type weaknesses, like Normal, Ground, Ice and Dark-types. Psychic-type Pokemon are vital for defeating heavily armored Pokemon. Avoid using Bug and Poison Pokemon, since they are weak in general and have very few useful moves.
Train your team by battling and defeating wild Pokemon and the Pokemon of other trainers. With experience, your Pokemon steadily level up. When they do, they receive stat boosts and sometimes learn new moves.
Teach your Pokemon a few strong moves. Usually, most Pokemon come with moves that aren't always the best. Moves like Earthquake, Flamethrower, Thunderbolt and Psychic are extremely useful in wiping out your foes. If you like to use status attacks, like Toxic and Hypnosis, teach these moves to a Pokemon or two.
