How to Get a Purple Kyogre in Emerald

When Pokemon flash and appear purple during a battle, this means that they are Shiny Pokemon. It is possible for any Pokemon, including the Legendaries in "Pokemon Emerald Version," such as Kyogre and Groudon, to appear as Shiny Pokemon. Unfortunately, this is extremely rare, with an encounter rate of 1 in 8,192, making the process for capturing a Shiny Kyogre very time-consuming. However, Kyogre only appears in one place once you beat the game, so actually finding him takes the least amount of time.

Instructions

    • 1

Head to Fortree City any time after you have defeated the Elite Four. Go to the Weather Institute in the eastern quadrant of the city. Enter the building and head to the back wall. Go up the stairs on the right side of the back wall and speak with the scientist in this room. Make a note of where the scientist says there is heavy rainfall.

    • 2

Exit the building and go to the route where he said it was raining. You will find that the route has been completely flooded. Surf along the waters until you find a small square of darkened water and you have the option to dive below the surface -- this area is known as the Marine Cave and is where Kyogre resides.

    • 3

Save your game immediately after diving to the Marine Cave. Follow the linear path through the cave until you get to Kyogre. Approach him to engage in battle.

    • 4

Examine Kyogre as the battle begins -- if he flashes before the battle starts and is purple during the battle, he is a Shiny Pokemon. If not, do a soft reset of the console by pressing "A," "B," "L," "R," "Start" and "Select" simultaneously. Load the saved game and approach Kyogre again. The chances of Kyogre being shiny are 1 in 8,192, so you may need to repeat this step many times.

    • 5

Battle the shiny Kyogre until he is weakened enough to capture using one of your Pokeballs. Shiny Kyogre are extremely rare and you will have to start the process over if he defeats all of your Pokemon, so using a Master Ball to capture him immediately is highly recommended.
