How to Grab the Turtle Shell in New Super Mario

Several basic moves have been a part of Mario's repertoire since Nintendo's mascot appeared on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, such as shooting fireballs or jumping on an enemy's head. Grabbing a temporarily disabled turtle's mushroom shell is also an original move used by Mario. "New Super Mario Bros.," released for the Nintendo DS, lets you perform this classic move as well. Use this ability to launch the shell to destroy blocks or enemies.

Instructions

  Press the "A" button to jump and land on a turtle's head. The turtle hides in its shell. Jumping on the turtle's head sends you bouncing back up into the air.

  Land away from the turtle to prevent performing a double-jump on the enemy and sending its shell zooming across the level. Notice the shell sits in place. The turtle remains in its shell for a few seconds before popping back out again.

  Hold the "Y" button and walk into the turtle shell. Holding the "Y" button lets you pick up the shell.

  Release the "Y" button to shoot the shell off in the direction you are facing.
