How to Get Past Cerulan City in Gold

In "Pokemon HeartGold" for the Nintendo DS, Pokemon Trainers return to the land that was first seen in the original "Pokemon" video games. The most compelling reason to play through Cerulean City is to challenge Misty, the Cerulean City Gym Leader and her tough Water Pokemon. However, you need to complete a few smaller adventures on the side to finally get the chance to earn the Cascade badge from Misty and her strong swimmers.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit Cerulean City and enter the Pokemon Gym. Note that the entire Gym is empty. You need to complete a side quest to bring Misty and her team of Pokemon trainers back.

    • 2

Walk east through Cerulean City and onto Route 9 until you run into a river. Face the river and have a Pokemon use the move Surf to ride on the water. Follow the river south past a Pokecenter to the massive Power Plant building.

    • 3

Enter the Power Plant and talk to the man inside. He will explain that an important machine part has been stolen. Exit the building, and a police officer will ask for your assistance. Return to Cerulean City.

    • 4

Enter Cerulean City Pokemon Gym and find a thug from Team Rocket. Defeat his Golbat in a Pokemon battle. Walk to the upper-left portion of the Gym and search around the floatation units for the machine part. Return the machine part to the man inside the Power Plant.

    • 5

Walk north out of Cerulean City through Routes 24 and turn left to walk down Route 25. Take part in the Nugget Challenge and defeat the eight challengers to persuade Misty to return the her Gym in Cerulean City.

    • 6

Return the Cerulean one more time to fight your way through five lesser Pokemon Trainers on the way to battle Misty herself. Misty battles using four Water-type Pokemon: Golduck, Quagsire, Lapras and Starmie.
