How to Get a Lapras in Pokemon Pearl

Lapras are a rare Water/Ice-type Pokémon that have been around since the first generation of Pokémon games. These Pokémon are difficult to find in every version of the Pokémon games, and "Pokémon: Pearl Version" is no exception to this rule; you can't even attempt to find and capture a Lapras until you have beaten the main quest of the game.

Instructions

    • 1

Head to Sandgem Town after you have defeated the Elite Four. Speak with Professor Rowan. Your conversation will be interrupted by Professor Oak, who will give you the National PokéDex.

    • 2

Head to Victory Road Cave. Speak with the person guarding the door to make him move out of the way and then enter the next area.

    • 3

Head south until you reach a bridge. Cross it and climb down the rocks to the bottom of the area. Head west and -- when you are able -- go north. Go west once you meet up with an old man and head up the stairs near him.

    • 4

Head east from the top of the stairs and then head to the north. When you are able to go east again, head that way until you find the cave entrance. Enter the cave to meet Marley, who needs help getting to the exit at the opposite end of the cave.

    • 5

Use the Defog ability to clear the mist in the cave so that you can see. Explore the cave until you find a large body of water. Surf around the water until you encounter a Lapras. This can take a long time, since the Lapras encounter rate is 10%, whereas the Golbat encounter rate is 90%. When you find a Lapras, weaken it as you normally would when trying to capture any Pokémon. A Lapras is vulnerable to Sleep and Paralysis attacks, so use them to weaken it. Throw Poké Balls, preferably Ultra Balls, until you capture it.
