Instructions
Obtain the "National Pokedex" from Professor Oak in Professor Rowan's lab. The National Pokedex registers all Pokemon in your Pokedex. Travel the "Sinnoh" region in Pokemon Diamond to encounter all 150 Pokemon in the "Sinnoh Pokedex." Fly or walk back to "Sandgem Town" and enter the lab next to the Pokemon Center to talk to Professor Rowan. Wait for Professor Oak to enter the building and upgrade your Sinnoh Pokedex to the National Pokedex.
Talk to Professor Rowan to obtain the "Poke Radar." The Poke Radar finds rare Pokemon in tall grass by notifying the player of shaking grass patches containing rare wild Pokemon. Talk to Professor Rowan to get the Poke Radar after upgrading your Sinnoh Pokedex to the National Pokedex.
Prepare your chosen Pokemon to capture Trapinch. Ice-, Water- and Grass-type Pokemon weaken Ground Pokemon like Trapinch. Avoid using Poison, Rock or Electric types against Trapinch, which resists damage from these particular types. The remaining Pokemon types, such as Flying, Psychic, Steel, Fire and Fighting, normally damage Trapinch.
Set your Poke Radar to the "Y" button shortcut. Fly to Route 228 and use any "Repel" item from the "Items" menu to prevent any wild Pokemon encounters. Walk around in the tall grass to search for shaking patches of grass; a patch of grass emitting light-green sparkles contains rare Pokemon like Trapinch. Approach the shaking grass to battle the Pokemon. Walk 50 steps to recharge the Poke Radar if you don't immediately encounter Trapinch. Battle Trapinch using the appropriate Pokemon after using the Poke Radar a few times; throw your desired Pokeball to finally capture it.
