How to Catch a Caterpie in SoulSilver

"Pokemon SoulSilver" was released for the Nintendo DS in 2010. While a majority of Pokemon are able to be caught in the wilderness, such as tall grass or caves, some Pokemon can only be caught through special means. For "SoulSilver" users, Caterpie can only be caught in the The Bug Catching Contest. This contest allows you to bring in one Pokemon and 20 Pokemon balls to catch Pokemon, and once you are out of balls, the contest is over and cannot be repeated.

Instructions

- 1
  Travel to the National Park on Tuesday. The Bug Catching Contest is only available on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. However, Caterpie will only be available to catch on Tuesday.

  Speak to the man in the red suit to begin the contest.

  Select one of your Pokemon to enter the contest with. Choose a Pokemon with a high level and status-altering moves that cause other Pokemon to fall asleep or become paralyzed. These moves increase your chance of capturing Pokemon.

  Walk around the National Park. As you walk, Pokemon will randomly fight you. Continue to walk around the park and start battles until a Caterpie fights you.

  Use your Pokemon in battle to weaken Caterpie until its health bar, listed below its name, is red. Use your status-altering effects on it as well.

  Use the competition Pokeballs to attempt to capture Caterpie. However, remember that you only have 20 balls to use.

  Exit the National Park once Caterpie is caught to end the contest. You will get to keep the Caterpie that you catch once the contest is over.
