How to Get Metang in Soul Silver Without Cheating

Nintendo released "Pokemon: SoulSilver" in 2010 along with its companion title "HeartGold." Players can collect hundreds of Pokemon in the two games, though finding some of them is a complicated process. For instance, to get the Metang, players must capture and raise a different species of Pokemon. They can then trade it for the Metang's precursor, and then by leveling up the young version, eventually evolve a Metang of their own. The Metang is a metal-based Pokemon with strong defense.

Instructions

  Travel to Ilex Forest, which is west of Azalea Town. In the middle of the forest you'll find a man headbutting a tree. Speak with him, and he'll teach one of your Pokemon the skill Headbutt.

  Use the Headbutt skill on a tree. A random Pokemon will fall out. If it's a Pineco, attack it until its health meter is red or yellow. Throw a pokeball to capture it. If you miss, throw more balls.

  Place the Pineco in your party. Wander around the wilds and fight random Pokemon battles. For every Pokemon the Pineco beats, it gains experience. With enough experience, it will level up and evolve into a Forretress.

  Go to Saffron City, which is at the intersection of Routes 5, 6, 7 and 8. Enter the Silph Company tower, which is in the middle of town.

  Speak with Steven Stone. He will propose a trade. He wants your Forretress, and in return, he gives you a Beldum. Take it.

  Put the Beldum in your party and fight battles until it levels up into a Metang.
