Nintendo released "Pokemon: HeartGold" and "Pokemon: SoulSilver" in 2010. In terms of plot, location and characters, the games are essentially the same. The main difference is in the ratio of Pokemons you encounter. The games allow you to explore the vast continents of Johto and Kanto. Although cities are connected by clearly marked routes, you can still get lost. The Pokegear Map helps when this happens. By looking at it, you can see exactly where you are within the game's continents. The map also gives the location of rare roaming Pokemon, making tracking and capturing them easier.

Speak with your mother to get the Pokegear. She's in the first floor of your home, which is located in New Bark Town, the city you start the game in.

Travel to Cherrygrove City, which is south on Route 30 and west on Route 29.

Speak with Guide Gent, who waits near the eastern entrance to the city. Accept his offer to go on a tour.

Follow Guide Gent to the conclusion of his tour. Once you're done, he'll give you the Map Card, which automatically installs itself into your Pokegear.
