How to Get an Onix to Evolve in Pokemon: Soulsilver

Onix is a Rock-and-Ground-type Pokemon commonly found in caves and tunnels. Its evolved form, Steelix, trades the Rock type for the Steel type, and has much higher offensive and defensive stats than Onix, but less speed. Both Onix and Steelix can learn powerful attacks such as Earthquake, Stone Edge and Iron Tail. In "Pokemon: SoulSilver," players can evolve Onix by trading it while it holds the Steel-boosting item, Metal Coat.

Instructions

  Defeat the Elite Four and the Pokemon League Champion. Talk to Professor Elm to obtain the S.S. Ticket.

  Fly to Vermilion City and talk to the sailor at the docks to board the S.S. Aqua. Enter each of the cabins, defeating the trainers as you go. Go down the stairs to reach the basement.

  Defeat the picnicker and go up the stairs on the opposite side. Enter the captain's quarters to find a little girl. Follow her as she runs off and talk to her to obtain the Metal Coat.

  Give the Metal Coat to Onix and offer Onix for trade on the GTS. Immediately withdraw Onix from the GTS to evolve it into Steelix.
