How to beat Striaton Gym in Pokemon Black and White

Striaton Gym is the first Pokemon gym in the Unova region. This gym is difficult to beat because each of its three leaders has his own element specialty. You will only have to fight the leader, who has a Pokemon that is strong against your starter Pokemon. To assist with the battle, you can get a free Pokemon to compliment your starter. The free Pokemon will greatly assist you in your first gym battle.

Instructions

  Go northeast out of Striaton City to the Dreamyard.

  Fight the two trainers there. Speak to the last person in the zone, and she will reward you with one of the elemental monkeys. For example, if you choose Tepig you will get the Grass-type Pansage.

  Go back to the Pokemon gym and start a boss fight. Step on the icon for the type that beats the type displayed on the curtain. Fight the two trainers inside. One has a level 11 Lillipup, while the other has a level 10 Patrat and a level 10 Purrloin.

  Go back to the Pokemon Center and heal up before heading back to fight the gym leader.

  Engage the boss, who will start out with a level 12 Lillipup. Lillipup is a Normal-type Pokemon, and shouldn't be too difficult to defeat with your starter Pokemon. If you don't kill it before the moves are up, switch to a low-level Pokemon to absorb the blow.

  Fight the last Pokemon of the boss, which is an elemental monkey stronger than your starter Pokemon. Switch to the level 10 elemental monkey from the Dreamyard and use its elemental move. The new Pokemon will defeat the leader's Pokemon in one attack.
