Instructions
Visit a Day Care Center in your Pokemon game. In "Pokemon Ruby," "Pokemon Emerald" and "Pokemon Sapphire," the center is in western Mauville City off Route 117. Solaceon Town hosts the center in "Pokemon Diamond," "Pokemon Pearl" and "Pokemon Platinum." You can find the Day Care on Route 34 in "Pokemon HeartGold" and "Pokemon SoulSilver." The Day Care in "Pokemon Black" and "Pokemon White" rests just off the eastern exit of Route 3.
Speak to the character behind the counter at the Day Care Center. Depending on the version of the game you are playing, this may be a man or a woman.
Select "Yes" from the menu when the character offers you the chance to raise a new Pokemon.
Give the man or woman at the Day Care Center a female Scyther and any male bug-type Pokemon. Bug-type Pokemon include Ariados, Beedrill, Dustox, Heracross, Mothim, Venomoth, Volbeat and Weedle, among others. Only female Scythers can produce new Scythers. Your new Scyther will inherit its move set from the male bug Pokemon.
Exit the Day Care Center, and walk around the world map for about 260 steps.
Revisit the center, and talk to the man or woman behind the counter again. The person at the Day Care Center will give you a Scyther egg.
Exit the Day Care Center, and walk around the world map once again to encourage your Scyther egg to hatch. You must walk 6,400 in-game steps before your Scyther hatches from the egg.
