How to Create a Trainer for a Video Game

The Pokemon video games for the Nintendo DS allow the player to create a Pokemon trainer, who must start his own adventure with Pokemon as companions and battlers. In the original "Blue," "Red" and "Yellow" titles, you could only play as a male Trainer. In more recent versions of the game, such as "Heart Gold" and "Soul Silver," you can play as a male or female trainer. Setting up a trainer in these games is fairly easy.

  Insert your game cartridge into the game slot on your Nintendo DS. Select your version of the game from the main menu screen and allow the game to load up.

  Let the introduction cut scene play out, in which the Pokemon Professor will explain to you a little about the world of Pokemon in which your Trainer lives.

  Answer the questions the Pokemon Professor asks you in order to create your Trainer; choose your gender and provide a name.

  Provide your rival's name when prompted a bit later in the game; your rival is a childhood friend who will battle you from time to time within the game.
