How to Lose Your Hat on the New Super Mario Bros

Make Mario lose his hat on "New Super Mario Bros. Wii" by earning 99 lives, which is the max amount, and completing a level. Mario will automatically reclaim his hat and put it back on if you lose a life. The best way to get 99 lives is to use the turtle jump trick on World 2-4. Losing Mario's hat is purely visual and does not affect game play in any way.

Instructions

  Travel to world 2, stage 4 and continue east until you reach the stacked blocks with a single Koopa Troopa walking on them.

  Execute the turtle jump trick by waiting for the Koopa Troopa to walk toward you. Jump on him just before he descends to a lower block. This will cause you to continually jump on him without having to press anything if you time your jump correctly. Eventually you will begin to gain extra lives after every jump.

  Wait until you have 99 lives and press the directional pad left to stop jumping on the Koopa Troopa.

  Complete the level without losing a life by heading east until you reach the flag pole. Mario will appear without a hat on the map screen and on subsequent levels until you lose a life.
