Tutorial for How to Download the Homebrew Channel

The Homebrew Channel is a custom Wii channel that allows you to run third-party and homemade games on your Wii. This gives you access to content outside of the official Wii catalog. Getting the Homebrew Channel onto your Wii will require what is known as a "softhack," which is a method of modifying your console without altering the hardware. While tinkering with your Wii in this manner is legal, it will void the warranty.

  Insert a blank SD card into your computer, or connect it via a USB SD card reader. Right-click on the SD card drive and select "Format." Choose "FAT" as your File System type and click "Start." You will be alerted when the card has finished formatting.

  Download a Wii save game exploit from any trusted Wii homebrew site. Save game exploits are hacked save game files that enable your Wii to run homebrew games. Some save game exploits stop working after a Wii system update, so check to make sure that the exploit you are downloading is compatible with the latest system menu patch. As of the date that this article was written, the functional exploits are Smash Stack, Indiana Pwns, Bathaxx, Return of the Jodi and Yu-Gi-OWNED.

  Download the HackMii installer from the BootMii website. Extract the HackMii installer and the save game exploit to your desktop.

  Copy the "private" folder from the save game exploit to the directory of your SD card. Copy the "boot.elf" file from the HackMii installer to the directory as well.

  Insert the SD card into your Wii. Follow the install directions for your save game exploit. These will vary depending on the exploit you are using. Some exploits will run automatically. Others will require you to load the game and play through to a certain point. Once the exploit has been triggered correctly, the boot.elf file will load and an installation screen will appear for the Homebrew Channel.

  Select "Yes" to install the Homebrew Channel to your Wii. You will be alerted when the installation is complete.
