My Wii Is Slow to Boot

It's frustrating when you try to play a video game on a slow-booting gaming system, especially on a newer system like the Nintendo Wii console. Anything wrong with such a new system could require some expensive work that might not be covered on the warranty. However, you can do several things to troubleshoot your Wii console before contacting Nintendo technical support, and possibly avoid paying for repairs.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the memory of the Wii. If you have had the Wii for a long time and have saved a lot of stuff on it, the memory may simply be full. If this is the case, the system will start to run a little slower, which will also cause the boot time to slow down. Clear off some of the applications or saved games that you have on the Wii, and the system should boot up faster.

Make sure the fan is not blocked. If you pack the Wii into an entertainment unit where it does not have sufficient ventilation, the fan can get covered, which will slow down the Wii. The fan is located on the back where you can see a grated section. Make sure nothing is covering this section up, preventing it from getting rid of hot air and cooling the unit.

Hold the Wii button in until the light turns red when you are done using the Wii. If the light is orange, it means that the Wii is on standby and is still technically running. If the console continues running for days on end, it can overheat. Simply turning the Wii off all the way can result in it working much faster and more efficiently.
