How to Get The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time to Work on the Wii

One Nintendo Wii feature is the ability to purchase and play Nintendo games from older systems on the Wii Virtual Console. You can purchase the "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" from the Wii Virtual Console via your Wi-Fi connection for 1000 Wii points as of August 2011 or you can insert the Nintendo GameCube disc into the Wii console and play it from there. You need to use the Wii Classic Controller or a Nintendo GameCube controller to play the game. The standard Wii Remote and Wii Nunchuk is not supported.

Instructions

  1. Wii Virtual Console

    • 1

Press the "Power" button on the Wii Remote or on the front of the Nintendo Wii to turn on the gaming console. Hover the controller pointer over the "Wii Shop Channel" box and press the "A" button on the controller.

    • 2

Select "Start" to connect to the server and then "Start Shopping" to open the Wii Shop Channel on your screen.

    • 3

Hover the pointer over "Virtual Console," press "A" to open the Virtual Console screen and then select "Search by Game Title" near the bottom of the screen. The onscreen keyboard appears.

    • 4

Enter "Zelda" and then click "OK" at the bottom of the onscreen keyboard. A list of Zelda games appears.

    • 5

Scroll down the list and click "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time." An information screen appears with information about the game.

    • 6

Click the blue "Download" button and then "Wii System Memory" to save the game to your Wii or "SD Card" to save the game to an SD card.

    • 7

Select "OK" on the Selection Confirmation screen informing you that a Classic Controller or GameCube controller is required for the game, then select "Yes" on the Download Confirmation screen, which shows the cost of the game and the amount of memory it uses. The Download Software screen and animation appears until the download is completed.

    • 8

Click "OK" when the download is complete.

    • 9

Press the "Home" button on the Wii Remote, select "Wii Menu" and then "Yes" when asked to confirm returning to the Wii menu.

    • 10

Hover the controller pointer over the "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" box, press "A" and then select "Start" to start the game.

    • 11

Connect the Wii Classic Controller to the end of the Wii Remote or plug the GameCube controller into the controller ports on the top of the Wii.

    GameCube Disc

    • 12

Plug a GameCube controller into the first controller port on the top of the Wii. Unlike playing games on the Wii Virtual Console, you need to use a GameCube controller when playing a GameCube game on the Wii.

Slide the game disc into the GameCube with the label facing the right side of the Nintendo Wii.

    • 14

Hover the pointer over the "Disc Channel" option using the Wii Remote and press "A." • 15

Press the control stick to the right or left to highlight "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" on either menu and press the "A" button to start the game.
