How to Remove LEDs From a Sensor Bar and Wiimote

The Nintendo Wii is a video game console that comes with two wireless, motion-activated controllers. These controllers contain LED lights that are installed internally and flash on the surface of the remote. If you would like to modify your Wiimote control you can open up the unit and remove the LED lights. This will require disassembly of the control but it can be completed quickly.

  • Small Phillips screwdriver
  • Wire cutters

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn your Wiimote over and slide the battery door off of the rear of the unit.

      Remove the two AA batteries and set them aside.

    • 3

      Remove the two screws inside the battery compartment as well as the two screws on the corners of the back of the remote.

      Pull the top housing of the controller from the bottom. The green sensor bar will now be visible in the housing.

      Remove the sensor bar and turn it over to reveal various components connected to the circuit board. including the LED lights.

      Use the wire cutters to clip the LED light wires, then remove the LED lights.

    • 7

      Replace the circuit board and fit the two halves of the housing together.

    • 8

      Replace the screws, batteries and battery cover.
