How to Install a D2Pro ModChip Solderless Clip

Modchips are normally soldered onto motherboards and microchips of video game consoles to open enhanced features of the console. The Nintendo Wii has many types of modchips and many do not need to be soldered. The D2Pro is a modchip that clips onto the Wii's DVD drive controller microchip.

    • 1

Unplug all of the cables connected to the Wii. Push both plastic flaps up and pull each one out.

    • 2

Remove the three screws on top of the Wii that you will see when the plastic flaps are removed. Pull out the black plastic protective strip.

    • 3

Remove the four screws under the black strip. Pull the two rear rubber legs off of the Wii's underside.

    • 4

Remove the screws under the legs that have been removed. Use a straight edge to remove the two stickers near the top of the Wii.

    • 5

Remove the two screws under the stickers. Remove the small screw on the thin bottom edge of the Wii.

    • 6

Pull the battery out and remove the next screw under that. Pull the small rubber leg, located near the battery, off and remove the screw underneath.

    • 7

Remove the three stickers on the bottom edge of the Wii and remove the screws underneath each of them.

    • 8

Pull the faceplate off of the Wii and unplug the small cable inside. Grasp both sides of the Wii and pull it apart.

    • 9

Remove the four screws on the Wii's DVD drive and pull the drive halfway out. Unplug the large cable connected to the drive.

    • 10

Pull the DVD drive out and place it onto a flat surface with the two larger microchips facing up.

    Installing the D2Pro Solderless Clip

    • 11

Locate the drive controller microchip on the Wii's DVD drive. This is where the D2Pro sits.

    • 12

Place the black portion of the D2Pro onto the drive controller microchip.

    • 13

Press down onto the clip until you feel a slight click.

    • 14

Push the perforated shape out of the protective D2Pro cover and place the cover over the D2Pro. The portion of the cover that now has a missing piece from the removed shape goes over the black clip.

    • 15

Place the drive back into the Wii and go through the disassembly in reverse to put the Wii back together.
