New Super Mario Bros Wii
Mario-themed games are one of Nintendo's staple platforms. The side-scrolling style took on new life in 2009 when the New Super Mario Bros. Wii game offered simultaneous gameplay for up to four players. This option alone challenges kids to work together to solve tough levels, including several motion-sensitive tricks that enable cooperative play.
Epic Mickey
Epic Mickey was introduced in 2010 and gives players the chance to explore a more adventurous side of Mickey Mouse. Several forgotten Disney characters and theme-park rides are used throughout the game to create challenges Mickey has to overcome with a paintbrush. The creative gameplay exposes kids to the consequences of their choices and previous generations of cartoon personalities.
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Like its predecessor, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a three-dimensional adventure game that requires unique thinking to solve. An added feature is the support another player, such as a younger brother or sister, can offer the main player in grabbing items or solving puzzles. A non-player princess character offers hints and demonstrations that can help players through difficult spots.
Wii Sports Resort
One of the first accessories to the Wii remote was the Wii MotionPlus attachment. This item came bundled with Wii Sports Resort, a collection of sports games that maximized the motion-sensing capabilities of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. Individual sports give kids the chance to set records, while team sports offer a more competitive flair.
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga
The Lego series of Star Wars games were originally released for the Nintendo GameCube in two parts: Lego Star Wars: The Video Game and iLego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy. This newer compilation combined both games into a new interface of 36 story levels, 20 bounty hunter missions and six bonus levels. As players complete the basic storyline of the Star Wars movies, they collect bricks, build machines, unlock characters, learn new skills and discover cheat features.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a popular party game for kids due to its multi-player mode where players pick a character and knock each other off-screen. A story mode is used to unlock additional features, such as playing as non-Nintendo third-party characters. Kids can also create and save their own levels to have brawls on.
Kirby's Epic Yarn
Kirby has been a popular character in previous Nintendo games, however this is his first adventure on the Wii. A primary challenge the character experiences is the loss of his usual ability to swallow enemies and copy their abilities, as well as the capacity to fly by holding his breath. Kirby's newer abilities include capturing foes and turning them into a ball of yarn, gliding on a parachute and transforming his yarn outline into different shapes.
Mario Kart Wii
Games that never seem to get old typically require being able to play against other people and experience random changes to familiar levels. Mario Kart Wii offers both, offering you the option to race against others, complete a story mode or battle it out using power-ups. Conquer the three Prix speed classes to unlock new characters, tracks and features. Kids will likely enjoy seeing their Mii creations integrated into the game and playing online against friends.
Toy Story Mania
Toy Story Mania can be fun for all ages, however it really seems geared for younger kids. Based on the popular ride at Disney's Hollywood Studios, the game uses Wii remotes to shoot targets in 10 shooting galleries. Players can determine which of the different playing environments they want to compete in, as well as if they want to use the 3D glasses that come with the game or keep things in 2D.
