How to Hookup a Wii to a TV

As with any video game system, you must hook up a Nintendo Wii to a TV before you can use it. In most cases, this is a very straightforward process, but some older TVs do not have the inputs required to connect a Wii. If you have one of these TVs, you will need to purchase an RF modulator or hook your Wii up to a VCR, DVD player or DVR.

Things You'll Need

  • Wii AV cable (included with the system)

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the plug end of the Wii AV cable into the AV multi out connector on the back of the system. This connector should be clearly marked.

    • 2

Locate the AV inputs, not the outputs, on your TV. These are the three small plugs that are generally colored red, white and yellow. If your TV only has a coaxial input, you will need to buy an RF modulator.

    • 3

Plug the RCA ends of the Wii AV cable into the inputs on the TV. On most TVs, all you have to do is match the color of the RCA end to the color of the input. Some TVs have a green input instead of a yellow input. Plug the yellow RCA end into this input, which is sometimes labeled "Y".
