How to Connect to a Wii With HughesNet

The Nintendo Wii features an integrated Wi-Fi connection for playing games online and downloading Virtual Console games. While satellite Internet connections such as HughesNet aren't ideal for online games, you can still connect your Wii console to the Internet to access features like the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, Web surfing, WiiWare or Netflix. The process is not difficult, but if you use a standard Ethernet cable to connect your computer to your HughesNet router, you'll need to purchase and install a basic Wi-Fi router.

Instructions

  1. Setting Up Your Wi-Fi Network

    • 1

Take your Wi-Fi router out of its retail packaging. Plug the power adapter into a free outlet near your existing HughesNet Router. Plug the opposite end of the power cable into the back of the Wi-Fi router.

    • 2

Plug an Ethernet cable into a free port on the back of the HughesNet router. Plug the opposite end of the cable into the "IN" port on the back of the Wi-Fi router.

    • 3

Connect a laptop computer to the new Wi-Fi network if you want to change the advanced settings of your Wi-Fi network. This is not mandatory, but you may want to enable encryption on your network, especially if you live in an urban area. Each router's setup is different. Consult the Wi-Fi router user manual for precise instructions.
