How to Fix a Controller for the Wii if It Doesn't Give a Signal

The Nintendo Wii's controllers use Bluetooth technology to transmit information to the system. If the controller stops emitting a Bluetooth signal, the system will be unable to connect to it and you won't be able to play. To get your controller working again you'll need to either charge it, replace the batteries and/or sync the controller with the system again.

Instructions

  1. Check the Batteries

    • 1

Remove the battery cover from the back of the dysfunctional remote. If you have AA batteries installed, proceed to Step 2. If you have a rechargeable battery pack, proceed to Step 3.

    • 2

Remove and replace the two AA batteries in the remote. Be sure to insert the batteries with the proper alignment as depicted on the battery cover. Replace the battery cover.

    • 3

Replace the battery cover and seat your remote on the charger. A red LED will light up indicating that the remote is charging. Leave the remote on the charging dock until the light turns green.

    Sync the Remote

    • 4

Press the power button on your Wii system and on your Wii remote.

    • 5

Remove the battery cover from the remote and open the SD card door on the front of your Wii system.

    • 6

Press the "Sync" button inside the battery compartment of your remote. The LED on the remote will begin to blink.

    • 7

Press the "Sync" button on the front of the console to complete the connection. The LED on the remote will stop blinking when the pairing is complete.
