How to Set a Wii Remote to One

When you connect a Wii Remote to your Wii system, it will automatically assign the remote a number based on how many remotes are already connected to the device. Since some games require that controller number one be used to navigate the menu system, if the remote that is currently number one gets turned off or taken away, you may not be able to navigate through all the menu systems. To correct the problem, you will have to reconnect the Wii Remotes.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "Home" button on any working Wii Remote.

    • 2

Point your Wii Remote at the bottom of the screen to highlight the "Wii Remote Settings" option. Press the "A" button to select it.

    • 3

Point your Wii Remote at the "Reconnect" button and press the "A" button to select it. The lights on your Wii Remote will flash.

    • 4

Press the "1" and "2" buttons, at the same time, on the remote that you want to make number one. Hold the buttons down until you hear a tone and the leftmost light on the bottom of your remote becomes lit. This Wii Remote is now number one.

    • 5

Press the "1" and "2" buttons on the other remotes, one by one, to reconnect them to the Wii system.
