How to Get the Wii to Work on a Projection

Because the sensor cable that comes with the Nintendo Wii is only 4 fet long, setting the console up with a projector can be awkward. The console has to be set up near the projector so the audio/video cables can reach the inputs on the projector, which leaves the sensor a long way from the display. You can use a sensor bar extension cable or a wireless sensor to get your sensor in the vicinity of the display.

Things You'll Need

  • Sensor cable extension (optional)
  • Wireless sensor (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wired Sensor Extension

    • 1

Plug the audio/video cable, sensor cable extension and power cable that came with the Nintendo Wii into the appropriate ports on the back of the Wii. There is no need to connect a wireless extension if you are using a wireless sensor.

    • 2

Plug the color-coded audio/video connectors into matching slots in an available audio/video input on the projector.

    • 3

Connect the power cable to an available AC power outlet.

    • 4

Stretch out the sensor extension in the direction of where the projector image will be displayed.

    • 5

Connect the sensor to the extension, then position the sensor directly beneath the center of where the projector image will be displayed. Alternatively, if you are using a wireless sensor, insert the required number of batteries in the base of the sensor and then turn it on. The sensor will automatically detect your Wii remote and Wii.

    • 6

Turn on the projector, then turn on the Nintendo Wii. Set up the projector so it displays the input the Wii is connected.

    • 7

Press the gray Wii button in the lower left corner of Nintendo Wii home screen.

    • 8

Select "Wii Settings" on the right side of the screen, then select the right-pointing arrow along the right edge of the projector screen.

    • 9

Select "Sensor Bar." Stand at a distance away from the projector where you will typically stand when using the Wii, then select "Sensor Bar Position." Select "Below TV" and then select "Confirm."

    • 10

Select "Sensitivity" and then select "OK" twice. Get yourself into the position you will be in when using the Wii and then press the "+" or "-" buttons until the two dots on the screen are the same size and blinking at the same rate. Press "OK" when you find a point when this occurs.
