How to Install Textures in Super Smash Bros. Brawl

"Super Smash Bros. Brawl" for the Nintendo Wii offers hours of game play that can be expanded by alterating its myriad characters. However, after you have made your own textures or downloaded some, one issue remains: How do you get them back into your copy of the game? The process is simpler than you might think and requires only an SD card, the Homebrew Channel, one homebrew application, and one computer program.

Things You'll Need

  • "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" game disc
  • SD card
  • SD card reader
  • Homebrew Channel (installed on your Wii)
  • Ocarina Code Manager
  • Gecko OS

Instructions

  1. Preparing the SD Card

    • 1

Format your SD Card. Connect your SD reader to your computer, then right-click on the device after its icon appears in "My Computer" or on your desktop, and choose the "Format" option.

    • 2

Create a folder called "apps" in the root folder (i.e., E:\) of your SD card.

    • 3

Download the program called "Gecko OS" from the WiiBrew website.

    • 4

Unzip the downloaded file, and place the folder called "Gecko OS" into the "apps" folder on your SD card. Put the other folders ("txtcodes," "codes," "private") from the zip file into the root folder of your SD card.

    • 5

Make a file path in the "private" folder in your SD card like this: "Wii\app\RSBE\pf\fighter". So if you are in the "fighter" folder, then the location bar on your browser should read "?:\private\Wii\app\RSBE\pf\fighter" (where the "?" is the letter representing your SD card).

    Installing New Textures

    • 6

Find the textures you want to import. For a list of websites that offer textures for download, check out Drake09's tutorial on installing Super Smash Bros. Brawl textures.

    • 7

Rename the individual texture files you want to use, to match the format the game uses (i.e., "Fit[Character name][number of the texture you are replacing]"). Put these textures in the specific folder for your character, found on your SD card in the "fighter" folder.

    • 8

Download and then unzip the "Ocarina Code Manager." This file can be found on the GBAtemp.net forums.

    • 9

Open the Ocarina Code Manager by double-clicking on the executable file from the zip folder. Enter the code found in the description of Drake09's SSBB Texture Tutorial into the Ocarina Code Manager.

    • 10

Save the code you have entered into the Code Manager as "RSBE01". Click on the "Export to GCT" button at the bottom of the Code Manager window, and choose the drive that is your SD card when it requests this information.

    • 11

Remove your SD card from your computer, and insert it into your Wii.

    • 12

Turn on your Wii, and select the Homebrew Channel.

    • 13

Choose "Gecko OS" from the list of available homebrew applications.

    • 14

Choose the "Launch Game" option from the "Gecko OS" application's menu. You will be able to see your installed textures after you have selected your character and the costume that you have edited.
