How to Kill a Great Jaggi in Monster Hunter 3

The Great Jaggi is a boss-like monster in "Monster Hunter 3." It looks like a bipedal dinosaur with a frill around its neck like an Australian frilled lizard. It uses numerous bites and lunges to damage your character and will summon smaller versions (Jaggis) to help it in combat. The beast is found by the Mountain Stream, Deserted Island and Sandy Plains areas. Considered one of the easier bosses in the game, it is relatively easy for novices to defeat if you have mastered the basic movement, dodge, magic and attack skills.

Instructions

    • 1

Kill one of the tiny Jaggi minions accompanying the larger Great Jaggi. Do not kill both. The Great Jaggi will summon two more if you kill both, and one is easier to deal with than two.

    • 2

Attack the Great Jaggi's head with fire spells or blunt swords. The head is the weak spot of the beast and will typically cause it to fall over, at which time you can inflict more hits.

    • 3

Roll to the left or right with the "B" button when it lunges forward for a bite. It will miss you if it's timed right, and you can immediately turn around and attack its back.

    • 4

Roll forward when he uses his tail whip. The beast will spin around twice, so rolling will let you slip underneath its tail and avoid heavy damage.

    • 5

Roll to the left or right when the Great Jaggi screams and lunges at you from the side. This is its signature move, the side body tackle. It also does the most damage. The only way to avoid it is to roll out of the way.

    • 6

Stand back and constantly roll and duck to avoid the beast when it enters rage mode. Thisis when steam comes from its mouth and its attacks become faster and more numerous. It is an indicator that the Great Jaggi is nearing the end of its health.

    • 7

Place some tainted meat on the ground when the Great Jaggi starts salivating during a battle. This will disorient it for a few seconds so you can get more hits in.

    • 8

Follow the Great Jaggi when it starts limping away. It will lay down to regain its health, at which time you can either kill or capture it.
