How to Unbrick a Wii Recovery Mode GC Controller

A bricked Wii is when the firmware on the drive will no longer boot up to the Wii menu when turning on the Wii. So, when you try to turn your Wii on, you will only get a black screen. A brick can happen to a Wii for various reasons, such as corruption of your Wii's firmware. You can use a Game Cube controller to enter the Wii's recovery mode and then install new firmware.

  • Game cube controller
  • Disc with the latest Wii firmware

Instructions

      Plug the Game Cube controller into the first spot on the Wii.

      Turn on the Wii.

      Press up, down, right and left on the Game Cube controller's D-Pad, all at the same time. You should see the current firmware version number on the lower-left of the screen.

      Insert your disc with the newest firmware into the Wii. The process will update and fix your Wii's firmware.
