How to Unbrick a Black Screen on a Wii

When your Wii has a black or blank screen, you are unable to see any of the boxes or options located on the Wii main menu. This prevents you from accessing any games or files on the Wii, or downloading any fixes onto the console. The problem is not necessarily a hardware issue requiring you to pay for repairs or purchase a brand new console.

  Inserting several game discs into the Wii. If a different game works, the problem is with one of your games and not the system.

  Hold down the "Power" button on the Wii for 10 seconds. The Wii shuts down. Unplug the device's AC Adapter for a few seconds if the Wii doesn't shut down after holding down the button. Try to use the device again, and proceed to Step 3 if the black screen remains.

  Re-sync your Wii controllers with the system. Remove the battery cover from one controller. Then, flip open the SD Card Slot under the disc slot on the Wii console. Press the red "Sync" button located under the battery slot on the remote. Then, press the "Sync" button under the card slot on the Wii. Wait for the LED light on the Wii to stop blinking. The remote is re-synced when this occurs. Perform this sequence with every Wii remote used with the console. Proceed to Step 4 if the black screen remains.

  Unplug the Wii and leave it unplugged for a few hours. The system may be overheating and causing the blank screen. Try playing the Wii again after the system has sufficiently cooled down.
