What to Do When You Forget Your Wii Pin

The Nintendo Wii offers parental controls to allow parents to restrict how their children use the console. The PIN you select is an essential element to this. When trying to do something outside of the controls you've set, such as buying a video game with Wii points, you'll be prompted for the PIN. It's easy to reset your PIN if you've forgotten it.
  1. Resetting the PIN

    • When prompted for the PIN, you will be able to select "I forgot." This will prompt you to answer a secret question you originally answered when you set up the parental controls. When you've answered the question, you will enter the parental controls area and be able to go to "Game Settings and PIN" to enter a new PIN.

    Forgotten PIN and Answer

    • If you've forgotten the answer you provided to the secret question, you'll also be able to select the box "I forgot." This will return a confirmation number on your television screen. Write this number down. You can then enter the code at Nintendo's customer service website. After doing so, you'll receive a new PIN to use.

    Preventing Kids From Access

    • Choose a PIN that's easy for you remember, but not easy for your children to guess. For example, you shouldn't use your house number or a child's birthday. Likewise, don't select an answer to your secret question that your child knows or can guess. Some children may try to reset the PIN by entering the confirmation number with Nintendo customer service. Check periodically to ensure this doesn't happen.

    Connecting to the Internet

    • When trying to connect to the Internet with your Wii, you'll be prompted for a password. Some mistakenly think this is the same as your PIN. The PIN is only used for parental controls. The password the system is looking for in this case is the password for your wireless Internet connection. This may be case-sensitive when entering it.
