Select a lightweight, fast fighter to counter Lucas' slow attacks. A few ideal choices include Pikachu, Kirby or Snake. If you want a long-range fighter to attack Lucas from across the arena, select Pit, Fox or Falco.
Wait for Lucas to execute an attack if you are using a lightweight character. Jump over him as he attacks. Use quick, basic attacks to build up some damage. Run away just before Lucas turns around to strike you.
Shoot Lucas with your weapon from across the screen, if you are using a character with one. Pit, for instance, has a bow and arrow. Hold down the "Attack" button to charge it. When the bow glows, release the button to deal maximum damage. Other characters, like Snake and Fox, have rapid-fire pistols. Mash the "Attack" button quickly to shoot Lucas as many times as possible.
Look for Assist Trophies. These glass-domed trophies fall randomly from the sky. Pick one up before Lucas does and then throw it to the ground to unleash its power. A Nintendo character emerges to help you. Most of these characters cannot be attacked, so they are very useful for doing a lot of damage to Lucas.
Pick up a weapon, such as a baseball bat or parasol, when Lucas' damage is close to 100 percent. You are more likely to knock Lucas off-screen with a weapon. Wait for Lucas to get close. Jump over his head and face him. Charge your weapon and then strike to send Lucas off the screen, defeating him.
