How to Perform Tricks With a Wiimote

The Wiimote, also known as a Wii Remote, combines a wireless game controller and an infrared camera in a single wand-like device. You can surprise your friends and family by performing a trick with a Wiimote when it's not being used to play a game on the Wii. The trick lets you track your fingers on a TV as you wave them through the air. You will need supplies from an electronics shop to do the trick, but the Wiimote will not be physically altered in any way.

Things You'll Need

  • LED array, 4-inches long
  • Half-dollar
  • Pencil
  • Utility knife
  • 9 volt battery
  • Paperback book
  • TV
  • Wii game console

Instructions

    • 1

Place the LED array on a work surface with the LEDs facing up. Place a half-dollar on the middle of the array. Draw a circle around the half-dollar. Remove the half-dollar.

    • 2

Cut through the outline of the circle with a utility knife. Remove the cut-out circle from the array. Discard the circle in the trash.

    • 3

Attach the positive ("+") and negative ("-") contacts on the battery to their respective connections on the battery clip attached to the array.

    • 4

Stand the array in front of the TV connected to the Wii game console with the LEDs facing you. Place a paperback book behind the array to keep it standing. Place the Wiimote on the paperback book so that the front is looking through the hole in the array.

    • 5

Turn on the Wii. Wave your hand around in front of you once the Wii's main screen comes on. Show off to your friends or family how your finger motions are causing the pointer on the Wii screen to move as if by magic.
