How to Save Manually in New Super Mario Bros.

In "New Super Mario Bros.," Bowser and his troublesome children have kidnapped Princess Peach. On your journey to rescue her, you're offered the chance to save your game whenever you beat the boss in a fortress or castle. You must do this to permanently save the progress you have made in each level. Initially, a "Quick Save" feature is available that lets you save the game anywhere, but once you restart your game, that save file is deleted. However, once you beat the game, you can create a permanent save file at any time.

     Press the "Start" button while on the world map if you want to save before you beat the game. Select "Quick Save." You can only load this file once. If you do not make a permanent save at a castle or fortress afterwards, you will lose all your progress.

     Defeat Bowser in the World Eight castle. Beating the game replaces the "Quick Save" option with a permanent save option.

     Press "Start" on the world map at any time after you have beaten Bowser. Select "Save" to create a permanent record of your progress.
