The Nintendo Wii was released in 2006 in the United States. With the release of the Wii came the built-in Wii Shop, which allowed players to download games directly to their Wii Console. These games, located in the Virtual Console section of the shop, came from previous video game consoles, such as the NES, Sega Genesis and SNES. A large variety of SNES games are available to purchase on the Wii Shop, including games from Nintendo, SquareEnix and Capcom. Once downloaded, the games are automatically installed to your Wii system's hard drive.

Select "Wii Shop Channel" from the Nintendo Wii's main menu.

Select "Start."

Select "Start Shopping."

Select "Virtual Console."

Select "Search by Category."

Select "System" followed by "Super Nintendo."

Select a game from the list of Super Nintendo games shown on screen.

Click "Download" to buy and download the game. As of May 2011, SNES games cost 800 to 900 Wii Points, depending on the game.

Select your game from the Wii's main menu to begin playing it.
