How to Get on the Internet With a Nintendo Wii Modem

The Nintendo Wii is a game system the offers a gaming experience using wireless, motion-sensitive controls. The Wii also has a built-in wireless network card, allowing you to connect to a wireless network; however, if you only have a wired network, you must purchase a Wii LAN adapter to hard-wire the system to your cable or DSL modem. Fortunately connecting and getting online using the Wii LAN adapter is a simple and straight-forward process.

Instructions

      Connect the USB cable from the Wii LAN adapter into the USB port on the back of your Nintendo Wii.

      Connect an Ethernet cable to the "Internet" port on the back of your cable or DSL modem.

      Route the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the Wii LAN adapter and plug the cable in. Unplug the power cable from the cable or DSL modem for approximately 90 seconds to reset the unit, then plug it back in and wait for another 30 seconds while the modem resets itself.

      Turn the Nintendo Wii on using the "Power" button on one of the controls.

      Select the "Wii" icon in the bottom left of the screen by pointing at it using the wireless control. Press "A" on the control.

      Point to "Wii Settings" and press "A."

      Point to the right arrow and press "A" to access the second page of Wii settings. Point to "Internet" and press "A."

      Point to "Connection Settings" and press "A."

      Point to "Connection 1" and press "A," then select "Wired Connection" and press "A." The Wii will automatically recognize and connect to the Internet using the LAN adapter. Select "OK."
