How to Use 480i in Wii With a Composite Cable

Composite cables are the red, white and yellow audio and video cables that ship with electronic devices for decades. The red and white cables transmit audio signals to a television set, while the yellow cable handles the video signal. If you want to play your Nintendo Wii in 480i resolution, your best bet would be to use the composite cables that came with the system.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the small, square end of the included Wii composite cables to the input on the rear of your gaming console. The plug on the end of the cable gently pushes right into the input on the back of the Wii.

    • 2

Plug the yellow composite video cable into the yellow input on your television set. Composite inputs are typically located on the rear of a television set, but some units may have a set on the front.

    • 3

Plug the white and red composite audio cables into the same-colored inputs on your television set.

    • 4

      Turn on your Nintendo Wii.

    • 5

Turn on your TV. Content from your Nintendo Wii will be displaying on your television set in a 480i resolution, as this is the maximum resolution supported by the composite cables and the minimum resolution supported by the Wii.
