Things to Do With a Wii Remote

You can use your Wii remote for a lot of other purposes besides just playing video games. The Wii remote is one of the most common types of computer input devices in all of the world, according to Johnny Lee, a rapid evaluator at Google Inc. It is a sophisticated piece of equipment that features an infrared camera with built-in blob tracking.
  1. Object Tracking

    • A Wii remote give you the capacity to track objects. You can use the remote's infrared camera, along with reflective tape and an LED array, in two-dimensional space. It permits you to interact with a computer simply by waving your hands in the air. The remote has the capability of tracking up to four different points at the same time.

    Whiteboards

    • The Wii Remote is capable of tracking infrared light, according to Lee. As a result, it is also possible to track any pens that feature an infrared led on their tips. By holding up the Wii Remote to either an LCD display or a projection screen, you are able to make interactive tablet displays or whiteboards that will not cost you a lot. This use of the Wii Remote works fine with rear-projected displays, too. (See Reference 1)

    Head Location

    • With the Wii Remote, it is possible to track your head's location while also generating images that are view-dependent on a TV screen, according to Lee. Your display is transformed to a gateway into a virtual environment. The TV display responds to both body and head movements. In this way, it is like an actual window that simulates a realistic impression of space and depth. To be successful with this use of a Wii Remote, you will need to have the latest version of DirectX installed. (See Reference 1)

    Syncing

    • You can sync your Wii Remote by pressing both of the red buttons within just seconds of each other. One red button is found right on the Wii console, behind the small door at the front. The other red button is located in the battery compartment of your Wii Remote. To get at this red button, you have to unsnap the plastic plate on its back. Press it to make the light come on and stay on. If you want to re-sync your Wii Remote, press both red buttons together. (See Reference 2)
