How to Play Two Player on Super Smash Brothers

For versus mode

  Select "Group" from the main game menu. Select one of the gameplay modes.

  Choose your character by moving the hand cursor over the desired character and selecting him. "Player 1" is a red cursor and "Player 2" is a blue cursor. Select up to two computer opponents to fight.

  Change the rules for the match if desired. Select the option at the top of the screen labeled "2-minute KO fest" and choose any additional rules you would like.

  Select the battle stage and begin the match.

For cooperative mode

  Select "Solo" on the main game menu and then choose "The Subspace Emissary (Adventure Mode)." This is the single-player story mode, but it is possible to play with two players.

  Begin the story mode as Player 1 and start the first stage.

  Join the game as Player 2 by pressing the "+" button on a second controller. The second player will control a new character but will have to keep up with Player 1, as the camera will stay focused on the first player.
