How to Catch a Scorpion & Tarantula in ACCF

In the Wii game "Animal Crossing: City Folk," (often abbreviated as ACCF) players can equip tools to capture fish and insects that wander their town. Fish and insects can be sold, gifted or donated to the city museum for display. The variety of fish and insects that appear in the town depends upon the weather and time of year. Some fish and insects are available for only a few months each year. The scorpion and tarantula are rare, dangerous insects that can be captured only in the summer.

Instructions

    • 1

Check your calendar. The game calendar is visible under the clock in the top left corner of the main screen. The tarantula appears only between the months of June and August. The scorpion appears between July and September. If your calendar is not currently set to a summer month, you can alter the game date by changing the system calendar on your Wii, though this process may cause weeds to spawn in your town.

    • 2

Equip your net by selecting it from your inventory. If your character does not have a net, purchase one from Tom Nook's store. Because the items sold in the store are on a random daily rotation, it may take a few days for the net to appear in stock.

    • 3

Walk around your town until you see the tarantula or scorpion. They spawn between 7 p.m. and 4 a.m.

    • 4

Approach the insect. Walk as slowly as possible toward it. When you are directly next to the tarantula or scorpion, press the "A" button to swing your net. If you miss, you may be bitten or stung, which will cause the screen to go black before you revive in front of your house. Being bitten or stung has several lasting effects: insects and fish become more difficult to catch, Tom Nook charges slightly higher rates and you may have a more difficult time befriending city residents.
