How to Install a New Wiimote

The Nintendo Wii console introduced a revolutionary motion-control system to gamers. The Wii remotes -- or Wiimotes -- contain gyroscopes and gravity sensors to track how the controller is being swung, moved, or shaken. The Wiimote that comes with the console is automatically synchronized with the console. However, any new remotes must be synchronized to communicate with the console. There are two types of synchronization: standard and one-time.

Instructions

  1. Standard Synchronization

    • 1

      Turn the Wii console on.

    • 2

Remove the battery cover on the Wii remote. Pull open the SD card slot cover on the front of the Wii.

    • 3

Press the red "Sync" button on the Wii remote near the batteries. Release the button.

    • 4

Quickly press the red "Sync" button on the front of the Wii.

    • 5

Wait for the blue LED on the front of the Wii remote to turn solid.

    One-Time Synchronization

    • 6

Press the "Home" button on a Wii remote that is already synchronized.

    • 7

      Select "Wii Remote Settings."

    • 8

      Select "Reconnect."

    • 9

Press the "1" and "2" buttons together on the Wii remote to be synchronized.

    • 10

Wait for the LED on the front of the new Wii remote to turn solid.
