Nintendo Games for Kids Three & Older

Throughout the years, the Nintendo company learned marketing strategies to aim their games for everyone at all ages. According to David Goldman, a staff writer for CNN Money, while other console companies market their games for "hardcore gamers," Nintendo has seen success in targeting kids, parents and people in retirement homes. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) rates games according to their content. According to Game Sutra in 2011, over 82 percent of Nintendo Wii games have been rated by the ESRB with an "E" or "E10+." This allows kids ages three and older to enjoy games that developers target to their age range. The "E" rating means that everyone who can operate the controller can play and "E10+" means kids older than 10 can play the game.
  1. Dora the Explorer: Dora Saves the Snow Princess

    • This game derives from a popular kids TV series called "Dora the Explorer." Dora and her friends are off to an adventure on both the Nintendo Wii and DS game consoles. The story places the main character in an effort to reverse a witch's spell placed on the Magic Snowy Forest. Your kids can use the Wii controller on missions to steer a dogsled, ride Pegasus or build a snowman, as well as other activities. The game, like the TV series, teaches kids the value of friendship and helping people in need.

Go, Diego, Go!: Great Dinosaur Rescue

    • Diego and friends will travel in the past to help a baby dinosaur reunite with her family. Kids can play the adventure on Nintendo Wii or Nintendo DS game consoles. Your kids will travel the world of Egg Island and use the Wii remote to move across monkey bars, climb rocks and solve puzzles. The game encourages kids to discover new activities.

    Mario Party 8

    • The Mario Party series is a game enjoyed by all ages. The game places four players on a board with the objective to collect as many stars in the allowed number of turns. Players choose the number of turns, ranging from 10 to 50, before the game begins. Landing on certain parts of the board will spawn one of the many mini-games. The mini-games will place game characters in arenas where the players battle each other to earn stars.

    Mario Kart

    • Mario Kart places well-known Nintendo characters in go-karts so they can race against each other. Kids can enjoy the racing aspect of the game and gather items scattered around the racing track to affect other players. The game is available for both Nintendo Wii and DS consoles. On both consoles, players can choose to play the game online or play with friends or family members offline.
