Games for the Wii Browser

The Nintendo Wii video game system can play games from various sources: games pre-loaded on a special DVD, the download of certain games off the Interne, and you can also play games that run on the Wii's Opera browser. While the browser games are not as elaborate as the console games, all of these games employ the use of the system's Wiimote controller and all are free to play.
  1. Wii Playable

    • Wii Playable is a collection of Flash-based games that are mostly user-generated. While some of the games can be played using a mouse (and thus playable to non-Wii owners), the section called "Wii Only" must be played using the Wiimote. One of the most popular games is "Deimos Lander," an arcade-style game that requires the player to land a spaceship on the rough surface of Mars while avoiding any obstacles, all while making sure not to run out of fuel. A version of the puzzle game Tetris is also available on the site.

    Wiicade

    • Wiicade offers a wide variety of games. All of the games are user-generated and all are designed to be played using the Wiimote controller. Games that are submitted are given a one-week probationary period, where the public can play the game and score the game on a scale from 1 to 5. They can also point out any problems or glitches so the author can fix them. Any game receiving a 2.5 or higher after the one-week probationary period will be added to the permanent game collection on Wiicade.

    Videlectrix

    • Videlectrix hosts a small but eclectic assortment of games for the Wii. These games are user-generated and many are meant to look as though they were played on an older game system, like a Nintendo NES or a Commodore 64 home computer. The game "Population: Tire" requires the player to continually bounce a tire up and down to protect the neighborhood from so-called "miscreants" like birds, who are invading the block. Once the tire bounces up and hits an enemy, points are earned according to the height and difficulty of the kill.

    Hullbreach

    • "Hullbreach" belongs to the category of games called a MMORPG, or Massively Multi-player Online Role-Playing Game. Almost 50,000 players are registered to play the space game, which is set in the Milky Way galaxy. Players create a character and ship then pilot the ship from planet to planet, exploring it and interacting with its inhabitants and other players. Players can accept and complete missions such as running cargo from place to place to earn credits to improve their ship. Mining asteroids for precious metals can also earn the player credits.
