Wii Games That Feature Wii Motion Plus

Wii MotionPlus, as the name suggests, is a motion sensing device for the Nintendo Wii video game console. It is considered "plus" due to its increased accuracy over its predecessor when detecting motion. The motion sensor, aided by an accelerometer, allows the Wii MotionPlus controller to display the actions of a player on screen without any delay. Most Wii games do not utilize the technology since they were developed before MotionPlus was released; however, as of 2011, a handful of games are available that require Wii MotionPlus to play.
  1. Red Steel 2

    • Released on March 23, 2010, Red Steel 2 is a first-person shooter sequel to the original Red Steel. The player alternates between shooting and sword fighting up to six on-screen enemies at a time. New techniques, armor and weapons are earned or become available for purchase as the player progresses through the storyline. The story follows the adventures of the Hero, a member of the Kusagari, a sword-fighting clan in the Nevada desert. The Hero has returned from a five-year banishment to find his town in shambles. All of the members of his clan have disappeared. The Hero must find his sword and the rest of the Kusagari.

    Wii Sports Resort

    • Wii Sports Resort is a sports video game and is the sequel to the original Wii Sports. It was released on June 25, 2009 and is the first game to require the Wii MotionPlus to play. The game consists of twelve sports games that require players to imitate real-life actions in order to participate in the game. The games include air sports, archery, basketball, bowling, canoeing, cycling, Frisbee, golf, power cruising, swordfighting, table tennis and wakeboarding.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

    • Skyward Sword is an action role-playing game scheduled for release sometime in late 2011. The game will have a heavy reliance on the Wii MotionPlus for swordfighting and targeting. The game is a prequel to Zelda: Ocarina of Time, originally released on the Nintendo 64 in 1998. It follows the adventures of Link, a boy who discovers the Skyward Sword which leads him to a hidden land ruled by evil forces. He uses the sword to travel back and forth between this land and his own.

    Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2010

    • Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2010, released on June 8, 2009, is an officially licensed golf game that utilizes the WiiMotion Plus to offer realistic, one-to-one motion that allows for your player to perfectly mirror your moves on screen. The way you swing the WiiMotion Plus controller determines the distances and direction the golf ball flies when you hit it. The games main campaign involves playing through a simulation of the U.S. Open championship golf tournament.

    Virtua Tennis 2009

    • Virtua Tennis 2009, released on June 2, 2009, is a realistic tennis simulator that includes more than 20 professional tennis stars to choose from. Using WiiMotion Plus technology, the game offers precision recreation of your motion on-screen. How you swing the controller determines your speed and style, and it affects where the ball will land.

    WiiPlay: Motion

    • WiiPlay: Motion is the sequel to the original WiiPlay, released in 2006. WiiPlay: Motion is scheduled for release on June 13, 2011. The game consists of 12 minigames that use the players' Mii characters as participants. It will require Wii MotionPlus to play. The games will include Frisbee throwing, whack-a-mole, a shooting range, find Mii, table tennis, pose Mii, laser hockey, fishing, billiards, Charge! and Tanks!
