Coraline Games

"Coraline" games follow the titular character into the surreal fantasy world of her "Other Mother." "Coraline" was a 2002 Neil Gaiman novella that was made into an animated film of the same name in 2009. There are console versions of "Coraline" available for the PS2, Wii, and Nintendo DS. For a quicker jaunt into Coraline's world, there are several flash games with art and music from the movie.
  1. PS2 &Wii Version

    • While "Coraline" is rated "E for Everyone," it is created for children who don't scare too easily, as well as adult fans of the fantasy adventure genre. The game begins innocuously with Coraline doing household chores, but the mood soon darkens as she discovers a world of red-eyed rats and button-eyed enemies. The 23 chapters consist of world exploration, puzzle-solving and mini games where Coraline must create music, smash bugs or flip pancakes.

    Nintendo DS Version

    • The DS version followed the same plot and basic game mechanics as the Wii and PS2 versions. The control scheme differs in that it is optimized for the Nintendo DS stylus. Coraline interacts with objects and characters through stylus taps. The mini games are played by tapping on-screen items. It has fewer mini games than the PS2 and Wii versions, and the graphics have less detail.

    Game Reviews

    • "Coraline" received negative reviews in all its console versions from IGN, Gamespot, Cheat Code Central and Gamezone. All reviewers stated that the game play was repetitive and that the mini games should have been more enjoyable. Gamezone was impressed with the Nintendo DS version's graphics. On the Wii version, IGN saw the lack of unique controls as a missed opportunity.

    Coraline Flash Games

    • Mac and PC users with the Adobe Flash plugin can try several flash games based on "Coraline." In "Coraline: Sort the Tiles," players must match tiles to an illustration from the film. In "Coraline: Hidden Objects," players must scour stills from the film for clickable objects that blend in with their surroundings. "Coraline: Find The Numbers" works much the same way, but the player must find numbers instead of objects.
