How to Disassemble a Wiimote

"Wiimote" is the name of the Nintendo Wii's motion-sensitive controller. Ordinarily there isn't any reason to completely take apart a Wiimote, as doing so can potentially cause irreparable damage to the controller. If, however, you do need to apart a Wiimote, whether for repairs or simply as an electronics project, it is a fairly simple process to disassemble one to its individual parts.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Flat-head screwdriver

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the Wiimote over and remove the battery cover from the back.

    • 2

Pop out the batteries to expose two small screw holes.

    • 3

Loosen and remove the four exposed screws on the back of the Wiimote with your Phillips screwdriver. There are two holes in the battery compartment and one near each of the bottom corners of the Wiimote.

    • 4

Lever the top and bottom halves of the Wiimote apart with your flat-head screwdriver. Do this very carefully. There are two clips inside the front of the Wiimote that hold the two halves together, and these may break if you attempt to force the halves apart.

    • 5

Pull the circuit board straight up and out of the bottom half of the Wiimote.

    • 6

Pull each individual part carefully out of the plastic shell. They should all come out with little difficulty.
